What will your Greater Manchester Metro Mayor do for young people?

In the run up to the Metro Mayor election on 4 May 2017, young people from the newly established Greater Manchester Youth Assembly (incorporating the 10 boroughs) are holding a special hustings event to give young people the chance to quiz the candidates as they lay out their visions, priorities and what they are planning to do for young people in Greater Manchester.

Date & Time: Thursday 6 April 2017, 6pm – 8pm

Venue: Friends Meeting House Manchester, Upper Hall, Mount Street, Manchester, M2 5NS

On the platform:

  • Andy Burnham – Labour
  • Sean Anstee – Conservative
  • Jane Brophy – Liberal Democrats
  • Will Patterson – Green
  • Shneur Odze – UKIP tbc

The hustings will be chaired by a representative from the Greater Manchester Youth Assembly and is an event for young people.  It will be introduced by Dr Andy Mycock, co-author of the Democratic Devolution: The Future of Greater Manchester report.’

The first ever Mayor of Greater Manchester will be elected in just 3 months, with a historic opportunity to use devolution to forge a social partnership that puts people and powers first.  It is clear that the powers the Mayor will hold have the potential to create a healthy, happy, socially just and youth friendly Greater Manchester region.  We will be asking the candidates how they plan to work with us to bring that change.

Greater Manchester has a big youth population, come along to debate with the candidates as we explore how they will use their influence and devolved powers to work with young people to improve their lives.

On arrival, you will be given the opportunity to submit a question to the candidates, if your question is selected you will be asked to present in the open forum.

This is a young person’s event.

All young people attending must either be 16-25 years or must be accompanied by a worker. If accompanied by a worker young people can be aged 11-25 years and the worker is responsible for consent. If a young people is attending on their own they must bring a completed consent (unless 18-25 years). A consent form will be sent to you after Eventbrite registration.
