Young Manchester is a new charity, established to commission youth and play services across the City of Manchester with a mandate to make Manchester a world-class city for children & young people, where they can be happy, safe and healthy, realise their full potential and prosper from the city’s economic growth.
Following seed investment of over £3.5 million between 2017-2020 from Manchester City Council, Young Manchester has already attracted an additional £2,000,000 in funding for Manchester to invest in young people.
In addition, Young Mancunians will have the opportunity to support their own communities too via proactive youth social action initiatives.
Commenting on the work of Young Manchester, Chair of trustees Nigel Wilson said, ‘’Our ambitions are set high, from 1st April 2018, Young Manchester will be funding youth and play work benefiting some 15,000 young people, across some 100 sessions across the city. We will be releasing information in the coming weeks that will celebrate the fact that thousands of young people are set to benefit over the next two years whilst also supporting their communities by giving back via positive social action.’’
Throughout April, Young Manchester will be showcasing some of the youth and play activities available to families and young people through the Charity’s social media channels. Delivery partners who have been funded will attend an event on 30th April, where news of the variety of provision will be announced.
Nigel Wilson adds, ‘‘On behalf of the Charity, the trustees and the thousands of young people who will benefit from our activity I would like to thank and congratulate the Council for creating this innovative way of supporting young people across our fantastic City’’.
Councillor Luthfur Rahman, Executive Member Schools Culture and Leisure, Manchester City Council, said, “We want all young people in the City to be happy and healthy and to grow and mature into responsible confident young adults ready to play their part in their communities and share in the city’s success.’’
“Having access to the widest possible range of opportunities and activities is key to this, and the funding we have provided through Young Manchester to youth and play organisations across the city will help ensure they do.”
