It has been agreed that a Youth Combined Authority would be formed which will:
• Advise the Mayor and GMCA on key issues and concerns of young people, and provide solutions;
• Provide a critical voice and scrutinise the work of the Mayor and GMCA;
• Undertake specific pieces of work, e.g. develop the Opportunity Pass, Curriculum for Life, etc.
Greater Manchester’s Youth Combined Authority will be the first of its kind in the country, and they want to ensure that it is an inclusive body, with diverse membership, and consists of members who are able to represent a significant number of other young people.
The Youth Combined Authority’s membership will consist of 40 young people: 20 representatives from local authority youth councils and 20 from other youth groups across the city-region. Each member will serve for up to two years.
Decisions about who will run this project are expected in the first two weeks of February and the first meeting will be on 28 February.
